“My umbrella won’t stay open, when I open it.”
If this is a standard sized manual open umbrella, the cause of this fault may not be a manufacturing defect, but instead a common human error by the user. The umbrella won’t stay open when being opened, if the user has their finger pressing down on the release button. Simply by NOT pressing down on the button, it should lock into place and remain open.
If this is a 6-rib mini umbrella, then this may be because the cylinder lock is not fully lined up with the lock hole in the shaft. By simply wiggling the cylinder when opening the umbrella, the locking mechanism will find the hole. And of course, as above, remember not to hold down the release button while putting the umbrella up!
If this is a wood shaft umbrella, this may be because the metal catch device at the top of the wood shaft has inserted itself into the wood shaft than originally designed. This can happen by accident if a heavy object is placed on top of the umbrella forcing the metal further into the wood shaft than designed. This can be simply fixed by getting a pair of pliers and extracting the metal catch a little from the wood shaft. This occasionally also happens with metal and fibreglass shafts, but this rare. “My Auto Open and Semi Auto Close umbrella no longer works.”
This can occur if the Auto Close button is not used to semi close the umbrella. If the umbrella is manually forced to fold the whole way, then it can break the auto mechanism and it may jam either open or closed. Please always refer to operating instructions. If there is another reason that the umbrella is not operating as expected, then please contact Clifton Australia and we can assist you.
“My Easy Glide Cylinder is not locking into place at the top.”
All cylinders without release buttons must be slid up the shaft with some force or momentum for it to lock into place. This is mostly true for 6 rib folding umbrellas. The issue is very rare in walking length or kids umbrellas.
“My umbrella never folds properly.”
There is a skill in folding an umbrella, but here are the basic principles as a guide:
